Bringing families together!

“A new life in the garden…”

Both Rosie and David admit that getting older and more arthritic meant that some day-to-day tasks were becoming more challenging.  They saw their move to their new Swift Granny Annexe at the bottom of the garden more of a ‘liberation’ than a sacrifice, freeing them up from “the burden of home and garden maintenance”.   At the same time, this allows them both to spend more time doing what they love…spending time with family and friends, as well as more time to ‘dabble’ with art in their home art studio, literally on their new doorstep.

Our Granny Annexe project is not about pulling the ladder up and waiting for the end. It is a new life in the garden, giving us the opportunity to do new things released from relentless property maintenance.

Our Granny Annexe project is not about pulling the ladder up and waiting for the end. It is a new life in the garden, giving us the opportunity to do new things released from relentless property maintenance. A smaller living space, given it is well designed, needs less cleaning and tidying leaving more time to do whatever we want, make art, see family and friends again, visit places we have never been to and eating out, once we have all learned to live with Covid and making our later years more rewarding, shared between three age groups living together in a mini community. Well anyway that’s the plan.”

Retirement is such fun, the best job we ever had.

Our aim is to get ahead of the game by creating a separate but independent home specially designed for ourselves as we age, with a member of our family moving into our bungalow becoming responsible for its upkeep and maintenance, as well as ours. They will also be there to see we don’t misbehave too disgracefully as we wend our weary way through the ageing process, and it may well be that we have as much support to offer them through these challenging times. We will for example be there during working hours to help when the family are at work. Retirement is such fun, the best job we ever had.
